Salissures (Stains)

Pierre Bourgault with Gwenaël Bélanger, Marie-Ève Charron, Gentiane La France and Anne-Marie Proulx
Occurrence, Montréal
10 November – 16 December 2023

Taken here as a space of friendship, transmission, and play, the concept of the stain imbues the projects in this exhibition, which revolves around the art of Pierre Bourgault. The first gallery settles a landscape. A sculpture by Pierre takes centre stage—part boat, part cabin. Large and contiguous, it stands before windswept horizons, images by Anne-Marie. Gentiane, for whom different traces shape the land in a space where visitors are invited to contemplate their own trajectories, completes this first trio. In the second gallery, a door opens onto the studio. This is the scene of singular encounters in which Gwenaël, Marie-Ève, and Pierre have brought into being a series of photographs, portraits of the artist in work coveralls, in this place inherited from his father, a wood sculptor.
