We asked questions about sounds to people that we met on the street. For the occasion, we named ourselves The Onomatopeias.
The Onomatopoeias (Claire Dumoulin and Anne-Marie Proulx) listen. They hear particular expressions, record neglected voices, collect ordinary sounds. They talk a lot but listen even more. They are curious and a little bit dizzy.
For three summer days, the Onomatopoeias gave themselves the mission to record an audio track of Montréalʼs rue Saint-Laurent, by collecting popular opinions and ideas. They amassed the voices of passerbys, artists and participants to the La Centrale event Boom-chix-a-boom #9. They questioned these people, and encouraged them to reflect on sound, noise, and music.
