Être encore (Being again)
Photographs and videos
2023

Être encore is the result of an Atlantic crossing following the path of women who redefined themselves on these waters. More broadly, the approach represents an attempt to suspend waters, in time and space, and to reach out towards those from which we come. Waters are like windows, mirrors, walls, and stages to cross between yesterday and tomorrow, between day and night, between there and here, as between a mother and her daughter.
Reflecting the journey of Flora Fontanges, the protagonist of Anne Hébert’s Le premier jardin, from America to Europe, the series of photographs complements those produced and shown in previous cycles (Le premier jardin, Le jardin d’après, Être jardin: The first garden, The garden afterwards, Being garden). Être encore invites us to reflect on the fluidity of identity, on our difficulties as much as our capacity to reinvent ourselves.
“The mist is still there in the morning. We pass through a great cloud. Then it lifts. Every moment is different. Even when everything seems the same, everything is unique. Each wave is unique. By the time you see it in its uniqueness, it has already become another. Like me.”
