Caesurae (Tout embrasser)
Video
2012
Excerpts from Raymonde April’s work Tout embrasser (2001) are reproduced in the eponymous publication, a fold-out poster that brings together texts and images. After consulting the publication, the images are cut out one by one in an attempt to separate them from the document and bring them closer to what they originally were—photographs. They are stacked so that the images can be scrolled through by turning them over and removing them from the frame one by one. This final intervention is a nod to April’s gesture in her film Tout embrasser.
This video is part of Caesurae, a series of projects that feature the action of cutting into existing documents. It was presented in the exhibition Inundations.
